Kathmandu. Tension has arisen again after a year and a half at the Birgunj juvenile correctional home. The situation became tense after juvenile prisoners in the juvenile correctional home started vandalizing the home on Tuesday, citing problems with food, shelter and other things.
The police, who arrived at the correctional home after receiving information that juvenile prisoners were trying to vandalize the home, took control of the situation, informed Parsa Police Spokesperson Kishor Lamsal.
A team including Parsa Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal, Superintendent of Police Mishra, and Deputy Superintendent of Police Kishor Lamsal held discussions with the disgruntled juvenile prisoners inside the correctional home and assured them that their demands would be addressed. The situation is now normal, said Spokesperson Lamsal. .
There are 127 juvenile prisoners involved in various crimes in the juvenile correctional home. But the capacity of the correctional home is up to 50 people. He also said that the reason for the anger of the juvenile prisoners is that there are many visits from government organizations and NGOs. He said that teams come more than 5/7 times in a month for monitoring.
This has been going on for three years and they assured us that they would solve your problems during the investigation, but they may have been angry because they felt that they were being teased for not completing it yet.
He said, ‘Today, at around 1:45 pm, there are 127 brothers inside there. They expressed their dissatisfaction with the administration there and the fact that teams from various other bodies come more than 5/7 times a month during monitoring. They come every day, inquire, and look at the situation there. The physical infrastructure there is also weak. Our compound itself is small. Its capacity is 45/50 people. 127 people are staying there. There are problems with drinking water, heat, and sleeping places.’
‘That problem is that different monitoring teams have come yesterday and today during monitoring from various government organizations and non-governmental organizations. When those monitoring teams came repeatedly, it felt like they were teasing us. They come, ask, and say that they will be heard, but the problem has been the same for two or three years. It felt like they were teasing us. We have been deprived of the minimum facilities. They made a fuss in their excitement after saying that. After the security personnel immediately informed us, we explained and explained. He tried to break a lock. But he was not successful,’ he said.
Earlier, on Bhadra 26, 2080, a clash between juvenile inmates at the juvenile correctional home had injured 11 juvenile inmates and 3 police officers.
