Kathmandu: Temporary and contract employees working in government agencies will now be able to participate in the social security scheme. According to Dandu Raj Ghimire, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, a notice to this effect has been published in the Gazette on the first day of the new year, 2082.
He informed that those working in institutions, corporations, boards, authorities, and establishments that are fully or partially owned by the government fund, the Government of Nepal, the provincial government, or the local level will be able to participate in the scheme.
It has been arranged that employees working in such bodies who are listed as contributors to the Social Security Fund and are eligible to participate in the scheme by considering at least 60 percent of the salary they have been receiving as the basic salary.
The employer will have to contribute 20 percent of this and the contributor will have to contribute 11 percent. The decision was made in accordance with the Social Security Act, 2074 BS and the Social Security Regulations, 2075 BS, as stated in the notice published in the Gazette. Although the decision was made on Chaitra 15, it has been implemented on the first day of the new year with the publication of the notice in the Gazette. Temporary and salaried employees working in government bodies will get relief from this.
