Target to build 200 suspension bridges in next fiscal year

Kathmandu. The government has set a target of constructing 200 suspension bridges in the next fiscal year. Addressing a press conference at the Ministry on Wednesday, the Ministry of Urban Development has set a target to construct 200 suspension bridges in the next fiscal year (FY 2082/83).

Similarly, 100 suspension bridges will be repaired, 40 new road bridges will be constructed and 30 road bridges will be repaired. Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Ministry, Narayan Prasad Mainali, said 3,700 hectares of land would be irrigated after the completion of 249 irrigation projects. He informed that 100 kilometers of roads will be constructed and 300 kilometers of roads will be blacktopped. According to him, the government will construct 60 local administrative buildings.

Similarly, the government aims to upgrade 10 kilometers of roads in the rivers and rivulet corridors of the Valley, to conserve public land and to construct parks at 26 different places in the Valley, to start land development works by approving the physical development plan of land integration in four places of the Valley, Jitpur Phedi, Dukuchhap, Ishan Naya Nagar and Tathvi Chalavu. The government also plans to promote greenery, create awareness, collect sky water, conserve forests and ponds for systematic urbanization of the Valley.

The government plans to start construction of the second phase of international standard stadium at Kirtipur Cricket Ground and the construction of buildings of the Ministry of Urban Development and Ministry of Youth and Sports under the implementation of the approved master plan of Singha Durbar complex. He informed that the construction of speaker’s house and chief justice’s house would be started as part of the construction of houses of VIPs. Similarly, the Ministry has said that the construction of international level exhibition sloth and amusement park at Bhrikutimandap will be expedited.

The government has set a target to carry out reconstruction of structures damaged by floods in Bagmati, Bishnumati, Manohara and Nakkhu rivulets in 2081 BS, reconstruction and restoration of historical temples and Pati Pauwa, improvement and cleaning of rivers and rivulets in the Valley. Under the Ministry of Urban Development, the bill related to waste management, the urban development bill, the bill related to the city development fund, the bagmati civilization bill and the bill related to settlement development are under preparation.
