Kathmandu. The first ‘Swayambhu Festival’ is being organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 15 from Falgun 10 to 17 to promote local identity and potential. The festival has been organized with the objective of promoting the ward’s natural beauty, man-made religious, cultural and social structures, customs and traditions, ancient monuments including monasteries, temples, chaityas, monasteries, sattals, and vihars.
The ancient monuments that have been neglected by the festival will be promoted as tourist attractions, informed Ward Chairman Ishwarman Dangol at a press conference held here today. The festival will feature products and goods produced by individuals and organizations trained in entrepreneurship and livelihood from the ward, local produce, vegetables and fruits, clothing made from wool and other yarns.
The festival will be held at Bhuinkhel Chaur in Swayambhu. There will be an exhibition at Bhagwan Pau’s Dharmachakra Park and an exhibition on ward-level disaster management, search and rescue and rehabilitation. Exhibitions and services will be provided from about 60 stalls at the festival.
Traditional musical instruments, pictures related to the rituals of the ward residents from birth to death, pictures related to culture and tradition, pictures related to the life of Buddha, postage stamps and currency will be on display, Ward Chairman Dangol informed. There will be additional attractions such as traditional food stalls, health check-ups, blood donation, Ranjana script writing, face painting, cultural and entertainment programs, and sports festivals.
Swayambhu Mahachaitya is the main identity of Ward No. 15. The ward has Shantipur, Harati Mata, Mahamanjushree Saraswati Sthan, Lakhu Tirtha, Shobha Bhagwati Temple on the banks of the Bishnumati River, Saraswati Temple, and a monastery.
