Supreme Court issues interim order not to immediately amend law prohibiting profit exceeding 20 percent

Kathmandu. The Supreme Court has issued an interim order in the name of the government after changing the law that prohibits taking more than 20 percent profit. A single bench of Justice Saraga Subedi issued the interim order in a case registered by senior chartered accountant Bheshraj Luitel.

The government was summoned for discussion by issuing an interim order on Wednesday. The Black Market and Certain Other Social Offences and Punishments Act, 2032, was published in the Nepal Gazette on 2081/09/29 through an ordinance and amended the provision that prohibits taking more than 20% profit in Section 3(1) dated 2081/11/21.

The ordinance has been passed by the House of Representatives and the National Assembly on 2081/11/22. The Supreme Court has issued an interim order, along with a show cause notice, not to immediately implement the Act.
