Kathmandu. Kathmandu: The Commission for Indigenous Nationalities (ECP) today handed over a study report to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli with suggestions for shifting the starting point of the Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhes expressway road project to Dukuchap of Godawari municipality-8 in Lalitpur. Commission Chairman Ram Bahadur Thapa Magar handed over the report to Prime Minister Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Singha Durbar.

According to the report, the current entry point of the project has been established at Fudol of Khokana of Lalitpur Metropolitan City-21, which poses a risk of displacement of the indigenous Newar community and violates the human rights of the locals. ।

The Human Rights and International Treaty Agreement Division of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers had urged the Commission to submit a suggestion report. According to the report, khokana area is a religious and cultural heritage of the Newar community, so it would be appropriate to relocate to Dukuchap. The Government of Nepal has also been advised to take prior informed independent consent from the local indigenous tribal communities while operating such schemes.
