Kathmandu. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Badri Prasad Pandey has said that strengthening of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) was essential for the development of the entire aviation sector.
Speaking at a programme organized on the occasion of the 67th anniversary of the national flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) at the nac’s central office here today, Minister Pandey stressed the need for strengthening the airlines corporation as the aviation sector is dependent on each other.
Stating that the Airlines Corporation has historical significance and is the backbone of the country’s tourism sector, Minister Pandey pledged that the government would always stand by it for its development. He directed the corporation management and employees to work in an objective, factual and result-oriented manner.
Informing about the achievements made so far, Executive Chairman of the Corporation Yubaraj Adhikari said that the Public Procurement Bye-laws are the main obstacle to the progress of the corporation. He stressed the need to maintain credibility through accessible, reliable and regular service by giving priority to safe flights to increase the trust of the citizens by being committed to the objectives of the corporation.
The airlinecompany celebrated the 67th anniversary of its establishment with a week-long creative program. Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Pandey was present at the corporation’s central office in New Road today.
Tourism Minister Pandey and executive chairman of the Corporation worshiped Akash Bhairav at the Akash Bhairav Puja organized by the Anniversary Main Celebration Committee. Tourism Minister Pandey inaugurated the newly constructed data centre on the occasion. After that, the tourism minister, office-bearers and employees of the corporation participated in the prabhat pheri which started from the central office of the corporation and returned to the central office premises through Geography Park, Ratnapark, Bhadrakali and Sundhara.
Established on July 1, 1958, nac has started its service from 28-seater Douglas DC 3 Dakota and has been providing service by bringing wide-body ‘A’ 330-200 series aircraft for the last time in 67 years. The airline currently flies to New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai in India, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Narita in Japan, Doha in Qatar, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Nac is operating international flights through two wide-body ‘A’ 330 and two narrowbody ‘A’ 320 series aircraft.
On the domestic side, the corporation is providing services at the airports in the remote areas. Nac has two twin-otter aircraft for domestic flights. Due to the lack of aircraft, the corporation has a declining presence in the domestic market.
