Spotted tigers start appearing in Banke National Park, locals panic

Nepalgunj. Tigers and leopards have been spotted in cameras installed in the national and community forest areas of Banke National Park and Kamdi Corridor. The movement of tigers and leopards has been seen in 169 cameras installed in about 70 places in the park and 95 cameras installed in the Kamdi Corridor.

Mandeep Pangeni, information officer of the park, said that the cameras installed for about 80 days saw tigers and leopards and that the cameras have now been removed. ‘The cameras were installed to understand the condition of tigers and prey species. “Now it remains to be taken out and analyzed,” he said.

Pangeni mentioned that the actual data will be released after the joint technical team of Banke National Park, National Nature Conservation Trust and other organizations completes the analysis work within a month.

District Forest Office Chief Shankar Prasad Gupta informed that a study of the leopard and leopard is being conducted by installing cameras at a distance of two kilometers in the community and national forest of the Kamdi Corridor.

The cameras were installed in the corridor a week ago. He said that the cameras have seen the movement of tigers and leopards and that information is also being obtained on which paths the tigers move. Forest Chief Gupta informed that the installed cameras will remain in the Kamdi corridor for 15 days and said that the actual data of tigers and prey species will be obtained from the cameras.

‘Once the detailed data is received, the technical team will analyze it and a plan will be made for the coming days,’ he said. Gupta informed that in the previous census, 25 tigers were found in Banke National Park. Banke National Park was established in 2067 BS.

The park office has stated that 34 species of mammals, including 11 rare species, 300 species of birds, including 50 rare species, 24 reptiles, including two rare species, and more than 55 species of fish, including five rare species, are found here.
