Kathmandu. Speaker Devraj Ghimire held discussions with the chief whips of the three major political parties to end the deadlock in parliament.

On Sunday, the Speaker held discussions with Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire, CPN (UML) Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartola and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chief Whip Hitraj Pandey.

In the discussion, the government and the opposition have reiterated their respective positions, but no consensus has been reached. Talking to media persons after the meeting, Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire said the opposition was not positive in taking the parliament forward.

Stating that the discussion would proceed in a positive manner if the opposition cooperated, he said the proceedings of the parliament would be forwarded even if the opposition did not cooperate.

“Parliament will come into operation from today. We have not got any conclusion or decision from the opposition. They have not concluded whether parliament will be allowed to function or not. If they cooperate, it will come into operation well. Even if they make trouble, there may be some discomfort, but parliament will move forward. ’

CPN (UML) Chief Whip Mahesh Kumar Bartola said they were not in favour of postponing the meeting by pasting a notice for consensus from today. He said the discussion on the budget would begin even if the opposition obstructs it or not.

“The main opposition parties used to appeal to postpone the meeting for consensus. We have been accepting that. In today’s meeting, there is no continuation of yesterday’s postponement by pasting a notice like yesterday. We want to proceed smoothly with the meeting from today. The discussion on the budget begins today. ’

Parliament has been disrupted due to the opposition’s stance that Home Minister Ramesh Lakhekak should be investigated in connection with the visit visa scam. Discussions on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year have also been affected due to the continuous blockade.
