Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Speaker Devraj Ghimire has urged the lawmakers not to indulge in activities to make parliament lifeless. Speaker Ghimire made the request after opposition political parties disrupted parliament in the Meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday.
Stating that the House has been stalled for the past two weeks, he urged the government to create an atmosphere of discussion as parliament is the highest body to solve the country’s problems. He said that the work done by the parliament could not move forward until the assembly was opened. For the past two weeks, opposition political parties have been disrupting parliament demanding the home minister’s resignation over the visit visa issue.
Speaker Ghimire said, “Honorable members, the House has been stalled for two weeks. The House is the highest authority to solve the country’s problems. We have to create an atmosphere of discussion. To create that environment, let’s take a seat of honorable members who are speaking. I again give time to the honorable members on a party basis. We need to create an environment for discussion on the subject. Otherwise, the meeting cannot be held. Parliament cannot do what it can if the Assembly is not functioning. Let’s not make parliament lifeless. For that, I request the honourable members. ’
The Meeting of the House of Representatives has been convened at 3 pm on Thursday following obstruction by the opposition political parties.
