Jhapa: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, has urged the local government to increase investment in technical education, ending the practice of considering development only as physical infrastructure. Inaugurating the sixth session of the second municipal assembly of Birtamod Municipality today, he said that the country needs practical and technical education along with theoretical education.
‘Now, theoretical education alone cannot produce skilled manpower,’ he said. ‘The era of technology has begun, the local level should take the initiative to establish technical schools to make education effective.’
Noting that there is a provision for a three-tier government after the establishment of the federal system in the country, Speaker Ghimire suggested that development should be carried out only by preparing a master plan.
He said that the local government should present a model of good practice using its own budget, discussing the tendency to look to the center for the development of education. Stating that a large part of the country’s workforce is struggling with negative trends due to the lack of good creative and labor-based technical education, he informed that the current education system is only becoming a place to produce unemployment.
Noting that the constitution and law do not prevent the local level from operating good technical and cultural schools in their areas, Speaker Ghimire expressed the view that education should be adopted as the main cornerstone of development to produce employment-oriented, cultured and thoughtful human resources for the country.
