Simkot. Simkot Bazaar, the district headquarters of Humla, was monitored on Monday. Expired goods were seized after monitoring the meat, daily consumer goods and other items operated here.
Shri Bahadur Bista, Chief of the Industry and Consumer Protection Office, informed that expired goods worth Rs 15,000 were seized from various shops during the market monitoring and destroyed.
Rotten meat, daily consumer goods that exceeded the limit, beverages and pet food were seized and destroyed, he said. Bista said that during the inspection of 11 shops in the headquarters area, it was found that consumers were not given bills for the sale of goods.
Local traders across the district are aware that arrangements should be made to provide mandatory bills to consumers after selling goods He mentioned that instructions have been given for the effective implementation of the arrangement.
‘We found that everything from vegetables, meat, alcohol, cigarettes, utensils to clothes were being sold from the same shop. Although consumers have the right to consume healthy food, some businessmen here are doing business against the rules,’ said Bista, head of the Consumer Interest Protection Office. ‘Most of the businessmen were found to have not posted price lists, not audited, not paid taxes, and were doing business by showing less capital. We have instructed everyone to operate their businesses as per the rules. We will monitor again in the coming days and take strict action against those who have not implemented the instructions.’
The District Administration, Industry and Consumer Interest Protection Office, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, media persons, security personnel, and others were present during the monitoring.
