Galkot. The road from Baglung Bazaar to Sigana is being upgraded after 24 years since the track was opened. The road in Baglung Municipality-8 Sigana section has started being upgraded after 24 years in 2054 BS.
While the road from Baglung Bazaar to Kathekhola has been blacktopped, the road up to Gokhola is in the process of being blacktopped with gravel. In 2054 BS, the work of bringing the road from Baglung Bazaar to Sigana with a budget of 300,000 rupees had started.
The then VDC Chairman Top Bahadur Khadka expressed happiness that the road was upgraded after 24 years since the road was opened. In Sigana, a constituency under a strategic road, the journey to Sigana has been shortened after the road has been upgraded, with a roundabout road slope, gravel elsewhere and blacktopped to Kathekhola.
Khadka says that this has made the journey easier. The blacktop from Baglung Bazaar to Bokse was completed two years ago, and now the eight-km road from Bokse to Sigana has been graveled, and taxis, buses and autos have started plying.
While regular school buses have started reaching Sigana, domestic tourists have started taking taxis and autorickshaws. Development in Sigana is gradually gaining momentum after the blacktop road began to arrive.
Until the bridge was built over the Kathekhola, transportation was not possible in Sigana during the rainy season. Materials had to be transported by mules. It used to take more than two hours to reach Baudechaur in Sigana from the Baglung district headquarters.
It used to take about an hour to reach the ward office, but with the road upgrade, that distance can now be covered in 15 minutes. A contract agreement was signed for 32 months to blacktop and slope eight kilometers (km) of road in Sigana at a cost of 290 million rupees.
Sandip Shrestha, site in-charge of Karna Builders, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of blacktopping the road, said that work is underway to blacktop 6 km of the road by Falgun.
Out of the 30 km road connecting Sigana, Chapakharka, Gazako Daha, Bareng Shantipur via Baglung Bazaar, Adalat Chowpari under Baglung Area No. 1, the work on the first phase of 10 km of the road has reached the final stage, and preparations are underway to open the contract for another 10 km of the road.
