Kathmandu. President of The Association of Economic Journalists of Nepal (NAFIJ) and Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and Executive Chairman of RMC Group Rajesh Kumar Agrawal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for ‘Shrawan Kumar Agarwal Nafiz Fellowship’.

Nafiz and Agrawal on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to set up a fund of Rs 700,000 for the ‘Shravan Kumar Agarwal Nafiz Fellowship’. Nafiz President Menuka Karki and Confederation President Agrawal signed the MoU.

At the 15th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Nafiz held on November 29, Chairman Agrawal had announced to set up a fund in memory of his late father Shrawan Kumar Agrawal. Shrawan Kumar Agarwal, who passed away in July last year, is the founder of RMC Group.

Shrawan Kumar Agrawal, a former chairman of marwari service committee, is also a member of the Constituent Assembly. The MoU was signed on Tuesday after completing further necessary procedures after his son Rajesh Kumar Agrawal announced the establishment of the endowment fund in his memory. This is the first endowment fund to be set up in Nafiz to provide fellowships.

As per the agreement, Chairman Agrawal will personally contribute Rs 700,000 to the endowment fund. Nafiz will award a fellowship worth Rs 50,000 annually to an economic journalist from the fund.

According to the agreement, a fellowship will be awarded for writing investigative economic news. Nafiz will also provide mentors to the journalists who receive the fellowship. A three-member selection committee will be formed to award ‘Shravan Kumar Agarwal Nafiz Fellowship’. The same committee will take further action for awarding the fellowship.

Chairperson of Nafiz, Menuka Karki, said that it would be implemented from the next fiscal year 2082/83 BS after completing the necessary procedures. Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CNI) President Rajesh Kumar Agrawal said the move would further encourage economic journalists.
