Sydney. Non-Resident Nepali Association High Level Committee Chairman Shesh Ghale has appealed to NRN activists and enlightened expatriate Nepalis to participate in the upcoming unity convention to be held in Kathmandu in May and contribute to unifying the association.

Addressing an interaction organized in Sydney, Ghale, who is based in Karmbhoomi Australia, said that there is an unprecedented opportunity to democratize the NRNA, which has been embroiled in controversy for a long time.

‘Last April 2024, the Supreme Court gave a summary judgment and later received the full text. Six months after the court’s judgment, the High Level Committee received instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in October 2024. Within 30 days of receiving the instructions, the first meeting of the High Level Committee was held on 19 November 2024. Along with that, the period of organizing the international general assembly within 6 months has also started,’ Ghale said.

He also informed that since November 2024, the high-level committee has held about a dozen meetings to open membership, create a website, and coordinate with NCCs.

‘We were not allowed to hold a meeting in the association building that we built with great contribution. The Supreme Court’s decision implementation directorate has written two letters to hand over the secretariat to the high-level committee, but they are still refusing. We are preparing for the general assembly even in very difficult circumstances. I am ready to shoulder this responsibility as per the Supreme Court’s directives, not to gain anything, but to bring the organization back on track,’ he said.

Dr. Ghale, chairman of the high-level committee, said that their responsibility goes beyond the mandate given by the Supreme Court.

‘It is not only a matter of fulfilling legal directives, but also an opportunity to build a strong framework for building a sustainable and democratic organization. In this general convention, all registered members who are eligible to become members according to the NRNA Act can come to Kathmandu and become delegates by paying the prescribed fee, elect their leadership, and formulate a new constitution. Such an opportunity will not come again. “Therefore, I request all my friends to spend some time, book their travel on time and come to Kathmandu in May,” said Ghale.

He urged everyone to be confident that the general convention will be held on the scheduled date. Chairman Ghale also requested everyone to get their membership by 31 March 2025, register their names for delegates by April, and attend the general convention to be held in Kathmandu on May 3, 4 and 5.

Speaking at the event, NRNA Australia Chairman Anil Pokharel said that since NCCs have the authority to verify the membership distributed through MIS, it would be easier to distribute membership if this technology was brought under the control of a high-level committee. He also said that all NCCs should cooperate with the high-level committee.

Former NCC Australia President Ganesh KC called for full support for the high-level committee, including Dr. Ghale. He also suggested that all parties should be brought together as much as possible. Former NRNA Australia President Dhruv Subedi said that in the current situation, the high-level committee has no other option but to hold a general convention. He said that he would try his best to get everyone together as much as possible, but also suggested that a general convention of unity be held within the specified time limit.

Outgoing NCC Australia President Nanda Gurung said that everyone should help the high-level committee formed as per the mandate given by the Supreme Court to bring the fragmented NRNA in the right direction. He said that the work should not stop if someone occupies the organization and building that we have built together, and requested everyone to participate in the general convention to be held in Kathmandu in May.

Man KC, founding president of NRNA Australia, recalled that the Non-Resident Nepali Association has reached this day due to the long struggle, hard work and dedication of everyone, and suggested finding a way out by adopting as much flexibility as possible to save the organization. He said that this is also an opportunity to protect the reputation of the organization. Ghale urged everyone to support the leadership committee and move forward.

More than 50 participants, including Honorary Consul of Nepal to Australia NSW Sanjeev Sharma, former patron of NRNA Indra Ban, NRNA activists Bhoma Limbu, Kushal KC, Janaki Poudel, Bimal Bhattarai, Irshad Ahmed, Bhim Kharel, Bishal Pokharel, Achyut Thapaliya, Sheshmani Pathak, Ethan Shakya, and others, expressed their views in the program. Ghale, the chairman of the high-level committee, answered the queries of the participants.

The interactive program was facilitated and conducted by Krishna Giri, former Youth Coordinator and Deputy Secretary General of NRNA ICC.
