Kathmandu. Bhuvan Sharma and Suman Sharma are young brothers who have a different opinion from the crowd of Nepali youth who are abroad and carry passports saying that nothing happens in Nepal.

The brothers have started their own business with the mindset that anything can happen in Nepal. The Sharma brothers, who have a permanent home in Saptari, have adopted their father’s profession and stepped into the furniture industry.

The ‘Yogini Furniture Shop’ started by their father Santosh Sharma in Anamnagar, Kathmandu in 2064 BS is now being managed by Bhuvan and Suman Sharma. This business, which started 18 years ago, has now entered the second generation.

Although their subjects of study and profession are different, they have gained good experience from their father’s furniture business. Bhuvan Sharma says that he faced many challenges while starting his business, but his father’s guidance helped him overcome those difficulties.

Now they have made their products available in the market with high quality and design. The Sharma brothers have been manufacturing various items such as beds, tables, drawers, benches, wall skates, and all wooden items as per orders. Sharma says that the price of goods varies according to the size, type and design of the goods.

He said, ‘My father started it, introduced people to different places. He taught me how to make goods and how to set prices. That is why it has become easier to run the industry now.’

Neither education nor age stopped Sharma brothers from working as if a mustache did not block their mouths. Today’s youth are dying for work. But Sharma Daju Bhai has become an example that something can be done in the country.

Challenges of the Corona pandemic and business growth

Sharma Daju Bhai said about the business, ‘Before the Corona pandemic, this industry was handled by my father. At that time, there was a turnover of lakhs per month. Now, there has been some decrease in business. However, a monthly income of 50 thousand is easy. That is enough to meet the shop rent and house expenses. And the savings are also good.’

Sharma says that when there are many orders, the turnover is up to 3 lakhs per month. He said that recently, problems like Corona and economic recession have devastated businessmen.

Singhdurbar.com interviewed Dajubhai, a furniture businessman based in Anamnagar:

Where is the wood supply from?

Sharma Dajubhai receives wood supply from various warehouses. Sharma said, ‘We bring wood from Tinkune, Radhe Radhe, Bhaktapur, Seto Pul and Maiti Devi.’ They determine the construction process based on the price, size and design of the wood.

Sharma brothers have also given employment to one employee. Sharma says that they demand employees for a specific period of time according to the needs of the work. They say that Yogini Furniture also has a delivery arrangement as per the need.

Sharma brothers are satisfied with their profession. They said, ‘Work opportunities in Nepal are limited and the income is low. Even though we plan to go abroad, we want to use this skill for now.’

Sharma Daju Bhai is satisfied with his profession

He is happy to take over the business started by his father. His father’s profession has been maintained. He has earned good money from this. He has not had to go abroad. He has learned the skill in his hands. That is why I am satisfied with my work and skill. But no matter what kind of work I do in Nepal, it is difficult to get the income I want. We brothers are working hard to ensure that happiness will come after sorrow one day.
