Baglung. There is a problem in the flow of services due to the lack of electricity supply in the remote Tamankhola Rural Municipality-6 of the district. The micro-hydropower project brought into operation from the Narjakhola has not been able to generate enough electricity, affecting the services provided by the ward office.

The water flow in the river decreases during the winter, so the electricity supply has not been able to be provided. Chitra Bahadur Chhantyal, Ward Chairman of Tamankhola-6, said that due to the lack of electricity supply, there is a problem in operating all the necessary electronic equipment, from computers to printers, in the ward office, and this has not made the service effective.

He complained that although most of the office work has started to be done through digital technology, due to the lack of electricity supply, it is forced to be done by hand. Ward Chairman Chhantyal said, “Without electricity, all office work comes to a standstill. The telecom tower in the village is also down, so you can’t even make calls. Service recipients come, they have to print and give certificates, and register incidents. But due to the lack of electricity, it has been difficult to provide services on time.”

There are three settlements in this ward, namely Narjakhani, Bhitribivan, and Patle. All three settlements have three small hydropower plants. Locals say that during winter, when the water level in the river is low, it is difficult to light even a lamp.

The 11-kilowatt Barahgoth Khola micro-hydropower project in Narjakhani, the three-kilowatt Khalikhola micro-hydropower project in Patle, and the six-kilowatt Barahthankhola micro-hydropower project in the inner forest are in operation. According to the project office, all these micro-hydropower projects are managed in such a way that water is stored in tanks throughout the day and lights are turned on only in the morning and evening.

Tamankhola Rural Municipality Chairman Joklal Budha Magar informed that the work of laying poles and lines has now begun in collaboration with the Electricity Authority for the expansion of the central transmission line. He said that the ward has a population of 1,500 people in 250 households and the locals are facing problems due to the lack of smooth electricity supply.
