Gandaki. The black-breasted siskin has been recorded for the second time in Nepal.
A team of Pokhara Bird Society president and ornithologist Manashant Ghimire, ornithologists Hathan Chaudhary and Gopi Shrestha recorded the bird in Dharan Forest during monitoring.
Society president Ghimire said that this is the second record for Nepal and that the first record for Nepal was made in Danabari, Ilam district three years ago.
On Falgun 25, 2078 BS, a team of ornithologists Sanjeev Acharya, Carol Inskip and Tikaram Giri recorded the bird at that time. According to him, this thrush is found from India to eastern Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam and from China to South Korea in the north.
It also migrates to the lower coastal areas in winter and the mountainous areas of China in summer. This bird is called ‘Black Breasted Thrush’ in English.
Ornithologist Ghimire said that Dharan Forest, spread over about 50,000 hectares between 100 and 1,300 meters above sea level in Morang and Sunsari in Koshi Province, is an important area for birds. This forest is considered an important forest among the 42 areas of Nepal identified by BirdLife International.
