Agency. In Nyagatare district of Rwanda’s eastern province, Gashora Farm plc does not just grow khusrani. It is also cultivating the story of agricultural change and intercontinental cooperation. The farm’s relationship with the Chinese market began in 2018.
When Managing Director Diudone Twahirwa participated in the China International Import Expo held in Shanghai. The following year, his participation at the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo further strengthened his confidence in exploring the Chinese market.
In 2024, Gashora Farms, headquartered in Kigali, partnered with a subsidiary of Haggleball to launch the Rwanda-Hunan pepper industry demonstration project. Under the contract farming model, the project covers an area of 100 hectares and covers the entire value chain from plant cultivation to export.
In the first season after the agreement, 200 tons of dried khusrani has been sent to China. Rwanda’s pepper has entered Chinese cities through the wholesale market. Which has gained consumer recognition.
The upcoming 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo is scheduled to be held in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province, from June 12-15. It will showcase such success stories and facilitate new partnerships between African and Chinese stakeholders.
