Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh has said that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year has given priority to make the Valley river clean and to upgrade the corridor road. Speaking at a tree plantation programme organised by the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KDA) at The Gokarneshwor-5 Bagmati Corridor here today, he said the Ministry of Urban Development has allocated Rs 3.42 billion to clean the rivers of the Valley, including the Bagmati.

Stating that the responsibility of protecting the environment is the common responsibility of all, Minister Singh said that everyone’s role would be important to protect the environment. Stating that he had taken care of the bagmati from the day he took charge of the ministry, he said that works were underway to make all the rivers including The Bagmati, Bishnumati and Dhobi Khola of the Valley sewage-free. “The government does what it needs to do as a policy. However, after planting a tree, it is not necessary that others will do the work of protecting the tree. The local community should be concerned about protecting trees and preventing indiscriminate dumping of waste into the river,” he said.

On the occasion, Mayor Deepak Risal thanked Deputy Prime Minister Singh for allocating more than Rs 400 million through the Ministry of Urban Development in Gokarneshwor Municipality. On the occasion, lawmaker Santosh Chalise said that this year’s budget has given priority to important projects of the Valley.
