Kathmandu. Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stressed the need to further strengthen the republic established by the people by freeing it from the authoritarian system. Prime Minister Oli said this while addressing the republic day main function held at Tundikhel in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Recalling that the republic played to make the state machinery service-centric, he said that citizen supremacy was the biggest. He argued that although there was a need to improve the conduct and behavior of the people in the organs and responsibilities of the state, the national challenges could be met only through a democratic system.
Recalling that the monarchy had repeatedly violated the agreements reached with the people in history, he said that the rule was done over the people instead of serving the people under the guise of the crown. Stating that efforts were being made to take away the rights of the citizens even in the present time, PM Oli urged the people to remain alert and said that the royal gesture could not be said to be bigger than the interest and opinion of the people.
“There may be much more to improve the conduct and behaviour of those in charge of state organs and even in the informal sector,” he said. Poverty, unemployment, corruption These challenges of the nation can only be met by choosing honest political power through elections in a democratic system, not by seeking a crownholder. History bears witness that the people were ruled under the guise of that crown, not service. ‘
“The work of making the state machinery service from governance started after the republic. It has not been completed yet. During different periods of history, there were struggles and agreements between the monarchy and the people. The people had established a republic by defeating the authoritarian monarchy, which had repeatedly broken the agreements with the people. Attempts are still being made to take away civil rights. But today’s society, which has grown up with the practice of civil supremacy and freedom, cannot say that the royal gesture is bigger than the interests and opinions of the people.”
Prime Minister Oli said that it is not a matter of debate in the society which is the best between autocracy and republic.
