Myagdi. The contract for blacktopping the road in the Kalipul Bus Park area of Beni Municipality-8, located at the entrance to Myagdi, has not yet started, even though the contract has expired.
The national pride Kaligandaki Corridor Road connecting China and India, Beni-Jomsom-Korla Road Project, had contracted Beni’s Saksham Brothers Pvt. Ltd. to blacktop a 500-meter road from the motorable bridge entering Myagdi via Parbat to the suspension bridge connecting Bagarphant using oxford technology at a rate of 11 meters wide.
Although the contract period with the company for 92 lakh 41 thousand on Bhadra 14, 2081 expired in mid-Magh, the project chief Dhruv Kumar Jha said that fines have been started for not blacktopping the road. “We have paid damages at the rate of 0.05 percent of the total contract amount per day, effective from Falgun 1,” he said. “We have exercised the right given by the Public Procurement Act to pay a fine of up to 10 percent of the contract amount. We will reduce the fine amount at the time of payment, and if the work is not done, it will be recovered from the bank where the security deposit was deposited.”
The construction company, which came to the work site immediately after the agreement, demolished the old blacktop and laid the base and subbase, and last month laid bitumen. The delay was caused by the company not having the equipment to blacktop and relying on other equipment.
The delay in blacktopping the road at the main entry point into the district due to the construction company’s inability to procure the equipment has caused dust to plague the locals and has sent a negative message about the entire district, said Uttam Kumar Karmacharya, Ward Chairman of Beni Municipality-8.
Tourists visiting Mustang have been suffering due to dust on the road at Bus Park in winter, mud in the rainy season, and potholes on the road. Previously, the blacktopping using DBSD technology done in Chaitra 2076 BS has cracked and caused potholes, water stagnation, and dust. Manoj Karki, the owner of Saksham Brothers, said that they are bringing asphalt paving equipment and construction materials from Kathmandu.
