Myagdi. Road blacktopping work has begun in the Kalipul Bus Park area of Beni Municipality-8, at the gateway to Myagdi, after the contract period expired.
The Beni-Jomsom-Korla Road Project, a national pride project connecting China and India, has begun blacktopping the 500-meter stretch of the Kaligandaki Corridor Road from the motorable bridge entering Myagdi via Parbat to the suspension bridge connecting Bagarphant, said project engineer Bishnu Chapagain.
‘Beni’s construction company had signed a contract agreement for 9.241 million rupees to blacktop the said road on Bhadra 14, 2081,’ he said. ‘After the contract period expired in mid-Magh, the contract will be implemented from Falgun 1. The project has stated that the construction company has been paid damages at the rate of 0.05 percent of the total amount per day.’
Beni Municipality-8 Ward Chairman Uttam Kumar Karmacharya said that due to pressure from public representatives and locals, and the relevant bodies starting to pay fines, the construction business started blacktopping five months after the agreement was signed.
‘The construction company that came to the work site immediately after the agreement was signed had demolished the old blacktop, laid the base and subbase, and laid bitumen last month,’ he said, ‘The delay was due to the company not having the equipment to blacktop and relying on other equipment.’ Previously, the blacktop using DBSD technology, which was done in Chaitra 2076 BS, had cracked and formed potholes, water stagnation, and dust.
Manoj Karki, the owner of Saksham Brothers, said that the work was done till Tuesday night, but the work would be stopped on Wednesday because of the Shivaratri festival and would be completed on Thursday.
