Myagdi. A river control project has been launched in Singa-Tatopani, Beni Municipality-4, Myagdi. The Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project Pokhara and the Water Resources, Irrigation and Drinking Water Division Office have launched the Tatopani settlement protection project, which is at risk of erosion of the Myagdi River.
Beni-4 Ward Chairman Ana Bahadur Khadka said that the construction of concrete walls has been started at different places along the banks of the Myagdi River with the budget allocated by the federal and provincial governments in the current fiscal year 2081/82. Sahana-BRT JV Parbat, which signed a contract for Rs 15.5 million, has started the construction of composite technology walls under Saraswati Secondary School. The cost of this project was estimated at 27 million rupees.
Narjung Gurung, engineer of the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project, said that a 66-meter-long, four-meter-wide, three-meter-high concrete wall and a gabion wall on top of it will be constructed to control erosion on the banks of the Myagdi River.
The construction work has been accelerated with the goal of completing this contract within this fiscal year. Shanti Nirman Sewa, a company that received the contract from the budget of 5 million rupees allocated by the Water Resources, Irrigation and Drinking Water Division Office, has started constructing a concrete wall behind the Upper Tatopani Bazaar. Through this contract, a 40-meter-long bridge, share and gabion wall are going to be constructed.
In 2078 BS, the flood in the Myagdi River caused erosion in Faparkhet and Masar in Tatopani. Two houses were destroyed in Masar. Saraswati Secondary School in Faparkhet, the building of the Jwalamai Bhagwati Ama Group and 17 houses in Masar are at risk of river erosion. Upper Tatopani Bazaar, where about 100 households live, is also at risk of river erosion.
While the river was controlled by constructing gabion walls earlier, the construction of concrete walls has started this year, Ward Chairman Khadka said. A contract has also been called for the implementation of a multi-year budget plan of Rs 100 million in the current fiscal year to control river erosion in Singa Tatopani and Beni Bazaar, known as natural healing sites.
According to Gurung, engineer of the Irrigation and Water Resources Management Project, a contract has been called for the construction of a 102-meter composite wall in Tatopani and a 165-meter composite wall behind Darwang Bazaar in Beni.
