Baniyani. Bhadrapur Municipality of Jhapa has provided one rice transplanter machine each to two cooperatives here. Chief Administrative Officer of Bhadrapur Municipality Sunil Niraula informed that NMC Agro Farm Bhadrapur-9 has been provided with a four-wheel rice transplanter, 6,000 seed trays, a paddy seeder and a four-wheeled rice transplanter and 6,000 seed trays to Pushpanjali Women Agriculture Cooperative Society Bhadrapur-1.
According to him, two four-wheeled paddy planting machines were purchased at a cost of Rs 5.85 million and handed over to the cooperatives. Of this, 75 percent of the municipality and 25 percent of the beneficiary institutions have cost participation. “This machine sows paddy in seven to eight kattha area in an hour,” he said, adding, “It is believed that it will benefit the farmers by reducing the cost of paddy production.” Once seed is planted in 12,000 seed-trading units distributed by the municipality, paddy can be planted on about 120 to 150 bighas of land.
Incentive amount
The municipality has also provided incentive amount on the basis of agricultural produce including paddy, maize, fallow, millet, zucchini and vegetables. Assistant Agriculture Extension Officer of the municipality, Hemraj Panta, said that the incentive amount has been provided to the farmers through the agriculture program of the current fiscal year 2081/82 BS.
Agriculture Extension Officer Panta said that rs 500 per kattha has been provided to 243 farmers/organizations cultivating mustard in 3,935 kattha under the Oilseed Crop Promotion Program.
Similarly, rs 1.5 million incentive has been provided to 144 farmers/organizations under the Potato Cultivation Promotion Program. An incentive amount of Rs 2,000 per kattha has been provided for cultivating potatoes in 662 katthas.
Similarly, under the indigenous crop promotion programme, 55 farmers/organisations have been provided cash incentive of Rs 700 per kattha for cultivating millet in 315 kattha and Rs 500 per kattha for cultivating 488 katthas of pumpkin.
Similarly, 51 farmers cultivating vegetables in a minimum of five kattha have been provided with 75 per cent subsidy under the Mayor’s Vegetable Cultivation Promotion Programme. Agriculture Extension Officer Panta said that materials worth Rs 18,750 per farmer have been provided on the basis of demand.
Rs 500,000 has been provided to his 12 farmers under the Bagar Farming Programme. With this, farmers have been able to earn income by encouraging them to cultivate melon in more than 20 bighas of bagar.
