Morang. Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has said that the Government of Nepal is determined to ensure people’s access to basic services. Minister Yadav said this while addressing a programme to hand over the Jatuwa Drinking Water and Sanitation Project at Biratnagar Metropolitan City-14 to the ownership of Biratnagar Branch of Nepal Drinking Water Corporation today.
“Access to clean and safe water is an essential condition to improve people’s quality of life,” he said. The Ministry is committed to providing necessary policies, resources and cooperation for the successful implementation of the project. Stating that the main objective and responsibility of the government was to provide safe drinking water to every citizen, he said that cooperation among the federal government, consumer committee, local level and citizens was essential for this.
Urging all to move ahead unitedly in the journey of ‘clean water, prosperous life’, he said, “Only coordination and participation of all of us can contribute to the health and prosperity of the people.” Our aim is to ensure people have access to basic services. Stating that the wait for at least 18 years is over, Minister Yadav said the Jatuwa project has now entered the stage of operating regular services institutionally.
Minister Yadav expressed happiness that the project has entered the phase of regular service operation by formally handing over to the ownership of The Drinking Water Corporation, Biratnagar Branch today as a strong result of local leadership, people’s participation and long-term commitment. “The Ministry is fully committed to providing necessary policies, resources and cooperation for the successful implementation of the project,” he said. ’
Arjun Babu Dhakal, general manager of Nepal Drinking Water Corporation, said the project aims to generate 1.7 million litres of water per day to directly benefit at least 6,000 people and install new taps in 500 households. According to him, from now on, pure, safe and regular drinking water service will be provided to the residents of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-14 in an institutional manner through The Nepal Drinking Water Corporation, Biratnagar.
Laxmi Narayan Temple Conservation Committee, Jatuwa had decided to provide land for the construction and operation of the project. The project is not limited to the residents of Biratnagar-14. It is also an important infrastructure with the potential to expand quality drinking water service for the citizens of 8, 10 and 13 and surrounding areas.
