Kathmandu. A resolution proposal has been presented in the National Assembly to end menstrual discrimination for dignified menstruation. In the assembly’s Friday meeting, CPN (Unified Socialist) MP Madan Kumari Sah presented a resolution proposal ‘Regarding the End of Menstrual Discrimination for Dignity’.

MPs Sumitra BC, Ganga Belbase, Bishnukumari Sapkota, Pooja Chaudhary, and Dr. Anjan Shakya are supporters of the proposal. Presenting a resolution on respectful menstruation, MP Sah said that in 95 percent of the country’s families, women still face discrimination during menstruation.

She said that menstruation is a natural process and said that it is necessary to eliminate such discrimination.

She said, “This situation is addressed differently depending on the place, caste, religion and community. Touching is done in the name of religion, tradition and culture. The only difference is that in some places it is more and in some places it is less. The discrimination seen in the central and far western regions is in the Chhaugoth, while in other parts of Nepal, the discrimination seen in the corners of the house is more. This situation is being faced by 95 families in Nepal.’

The MPs supporting the resolution also said that menstrual discrimination has a serious impact on girls and that it is a violation of human rights. They emphasize that such discrimination should be eradicated.
