The meeting also discussed the issue of charging an annual fee of 2.3 million from students who do not agree to sign a 2-year study and work agreement in the concerned college. Currently, private medical colleges are providing a monthly subsistence allowance of 20,000. Postgraduate students are continuing their agitation for equal facilities and the Commission’s exams are also affected, and Prime Minister Oli has taken the initiative to resolve the problem.

In the meeting, Private Medical College Association Chairman Prof. Dr. Gyanendra Man Singh Karki had urged the Commission to take a decision after the procedure is finalized, but Prime Minister Oli, who is also the Commission Chairman, and the co-chairmen Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Poudel and Minister for Education, Science and Technology Bidya Bhattarai had made it clear that they could not back down from their commitment to equal facilities for resident doctors.

The Commission, which has been working on integrated regulation of medical education, monitoring, conducting entrance examinations, determining the number of student seats to be given to educational institutions, and determining tuition fees, also discussed the issue of initiating the process of necessary amendments to the National Medical Education Act, 2075 BS.
