Kathmandu. Janmat Party MP Abdul Khan has condemned the government for arresting Resham Lal Chaudhary, the patron of the Civil Liberties Party (NAUPA), based on an unauthorized letter from the Supreme Court. He condemned the government in his remarks in the House of Representatives meeting held on Monday.
He said that Chaudhary was arrested on Baisakh 17 when the NAUPA and Janmat Party were about to merge, and that this had a serious impact on the unity and political coordination of Madhesi, Tharu, Muslim, indigenous, and nationalities.
He said that the arrest, which was made as a political conspiracy, was done to break the unity of Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim people, and that it had drawn their serious attention. He said that this incident clearly shows the lack of transparency and credibility in our country’s justice system as well as political processes.
MP Khan said that the arrest of Chaudhary based on the unauthorized letter of the Supreme Court has eroded public confidence in the rule of law and demanded an impartial investigation into the incident and action against the culprits.
He said, ‘I condemn and strongly condemn the unauthorized arrest of the patron of the Civil Liberation Party, Honorable Resham Lal Chaudhary, by the Supreme Court on Baisakh 17 at a time when the Civil Liberation Party and the Janmat Party are about to merge. Resham Lal Chaudhary was released by the government with a general amnesty. But the incident of Chaudhary being arrested from the venue on the day of the unity program between the Civil Liberation Party and the Janamat Party on 17th of Baisakh 2082 has seriously affected the unity and political coordination of Madhesi, Tharu, Muslim, indigenous, and nationalities.’
‘Our serious attention has been drawn to the arrest made in a political conspiracy to break the unity of Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim. This incident has made it clear that there is no need for transparency and credibility in our justice system and political process. The arrest made on the basis of unauthorized letters has lost public confidence in the rule of law. An impartial investigation into this matter should be conducted and strictest action should be taken against the culprits involved,’ he mentioned.
He commented that although the current government appears to be strong in terms of numbers, it has not become a strong government in terms of accountability to the people.
