Request not to advertise tobacco products in the name of fairs and festivals

Kathmandu. The Ministry of Health and Population has urged not to advertise or promote tobacco products in the name of various fairs, festivals and festivals. Ministry spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki informed that the ministry has drawn attention to the involvement of tobacco product manufacturers in the name of some fairs, festivals and festivals and has urged not to advertise or promote tobacco products at such fairs, festivals and festivals.

Section 10 of the Tobacco Products (Control and Regulation) Act, 2068 states that ‘no one, including the manufacturer, shall advertise or promote tobacco products through newspapers, magazines and radio television, the Internet, electronic media such as email, interactive programs, hoarding boards, wall writing, logos, signs or any other means or transmit or sponsor news or information at any program’.

Ministry spokesperson Dr. Budhathoki said that the law is against this. He said that action will be taken as per the law if tobacco products are found to be advertised or promoted. He urged not to have sponsors at fairs and festivals as the consumption of tobacco products is extremely harmful to human health and has a negative impact on the economic, social and cultural activities of human life.

The Tobacco Products (Control and Regulation) Act, 2068 and the Tobacco Products (Control and Regulation) Regulations, 2068 and the Directive 2081 on Printing and Marking Warning Messages and Pictures on Tobacco Products, Packets and Wrappers, Boxes and Parcels, Packaging have been issued. As per the said directive, all concerned have been requested to place pictorial health warning messages on the front and back of 100% of the main part of the tobacco product boxes, packets, wrappers, boxes and packaging.

Spoken Minister Dr. Prakash Budhathoki said that the provisions in the Tobacco Products Act, Regulations and Directive will contribute to reducing the use of tobacco products and reducing tobacco-related diseases and mortality in the long term and improving public health.
