Kathmandu. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari has requested the Japanese government to assist in establishing a high-quality milk processing center in Kathmandu. Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru called on Minister Adhikari at the ministry in Singha Durbar, saying that although Nepal has made great progress in the development of the dairy sector, it needs a processing center and urged for support.
Minister Adhikari stated that Japan has been providing significant support for the development of Nepal’s agricultural sector and expected more support for the modernization of agriculture in the coming days.
‘Japan’s production increase through the use of technology and the achievements it has brought to the overall agricultural sector are important. Nepal also needs to learn from Japan’s experiments in the agricultural sector, so we can collaborate for technical knowledge. Even now, Japanese volunteers are providing support through various offices under the ministry. Through this, Nepalis have got the opportunity to learn the agricultural practices prevalent in Japan,’ said Minister Adhikari. .
Noting that Nepal has adopted a policy of attracting investment by declaring an investment decade in agriculture, he urged the ambassador to facilitate Japanese investors to invest in Nepal. Next year, Nepal will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Japan. Minister Adhikari expressed confidence that the selfless assistance received from Japan will further increase on this occasion.
During the meeting, Japanese Ambassador Toru said that the ongoing assistance in the agricultural sector would be continued as there is a lot of potential in Nepal’s agricultural sector. He also expressed his commitment to study further possibilities of cooperation in the coming days.
Ambassador Toru emphasized that Japan has given importance to the use of equipment in the development of the agricultural sector, and Nepal should also modernize its agriculture. Ambassador Toru also mentioned that Japan could be a good market for Nepal’s tea and herbal products, so cooperation could be established for their export.
