The beam installed on spurs 4 and 5 on the east side of the bridge has cracked by about eight centimeters, informed the head of the office, Arun Kumar Karna.

He informed that the repair work of the bridge has begun from the 28th by constructing a diversion on the same Magh 26th. He said that the concrete ‘pedestal’ that holds the bearings in the beams between the four and five spurs of the Bagmati River Bridge, which was built about 55 years ago under the assistance of the Nepal-Soviet Union, has cracked.

Major Karna said that work is underway to pour high-quality concrete on the bridge using modern technology and to make it slope. At the same time, he said that the condition of the other beams and the bearings and concrete will also be checked. He informed that work is being done to bring the bridge into operation by the coming Falgun 20.

He said that the goal is to repair the bridge, which is busy 24 hours a day, as soon as possible and allow vehicles to operate from the bridge. He said that after the problem arose due to a cracked beam between spans 4-5 of the bridge, a team from the Bridge Division came and inspected the site and started repairs based on the suggestions given.

He informed that the bridge will probably be open to traffic from Falgun 20. On Magh 25, the Road Division Office had issued a letter banning traffic from the 27th. After the cracked beam of the bridge, traffic had become more risky.
