Kathmandu. Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Socialist) and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the forces of change should unite as regressive elements have started to stir up trouble in the country.
At a program organized by the party at its central office in Aloknagar today, he said that protecting the rights and the current system gained through the people’s long struggle is the main responsibility.
Emphasizing that the government should correct its working style and discourage wrong trends, he said, ‘Regressive status quoists have now started raising their heads. The party has taken the issue seriously.’
He said that the protests that have been taking place in some cities of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley, for some time now are not only an attack on the government, but also on democracy itself. Chairman Nepal expressed the view that attacks on democracy would not be tolerated and urged the government to be serious about protecting the constitution, democracy, as well as the federal republic.
He said that since the federal democratic republic was achieved through the sacrifice and struggle of the people, everyone should unite to protect it. Chairman Nepal emphasized that the people should be vigilant as federal democracy is being attacked and that no one has the right to violate the constitution.
