Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel has said that it is necessary to manage public government enterprises in a new way. Minister Poudel said this while responding to questions raised by lawmakers during the principled discussion on the ‘Privatization (First Amendment) Bill, 2081’ at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday.
He said that the privatization bill was not brought with the aim of influencing middlemen and selling public enterprises at a low price, and that lawmakers should not be agitated. He claims that this is not the case when analyzing any of the proposals in the bill.
He claimed that public institutions have suffered losses and are sick due to the lack of effective implementation of the Privatization Act and that the amendment bill has been brought to improve it.
He said, “We all have the same love for public property. We all have the responsibility to protect it. We should not think that the government underestimates it. The bill to amend the Privatization Act, 2050 was brought out of necessity. There was some contradiction in the provisions and regulations of our act. We made provisions in the law, but the law could not be effectively implemented. After the law is made, it should be implemented. Therefore, this bill has been brought to ensure that the necessary structure is in place for the effective implementation of the appropriate provisions of the law. Why did we establish public institutions? Or is it now in deficit?’
He said the bill would play an important role in effectively managing loss-making and ailing public enterprises.
