Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed a positive commitment to implement the report of the Health Insurance Reform Suggestions Task Force.
Inquiring about the receipt of the report from Minister of Health and Population Pradeep Poudel, Task Force Coordinator Sambhu Acharya, and members Dr. Raghuraj Kafle, Dr. Bhagwan Koirala, and Member Secretary Saroj Sharma, Prime Minister Oli urged them to come with an action plan.
Prime Minister Oli said, “Please come with an action plan within a week.” Minister of Health and Population Poudel, who participated in the meeting, said that he had received a positive response from the Prime Minister.
“The Prime Minister has given a positive response,” he said, “We will re-present it with an action plan.” Minister Poudel said, “Please come with an action plan within a week.” He said that the report will be made public and the government will also move forward with the process of implementing the main suggestions.
Minister Poudel had formed a suggestion task force under the leadership of Dr. Acharya, a former high-ranking official of the World Health Organization, to increase citizen access to health insurance and provide suggestions for improving service standards.
The Ministry of Health and Population is currently studying the implementation framework for the issues raised in the report. Minister Poudel has been emphasizing policy reforms, improving the quality of services, and increasing resources.
The Health Insurance Board has been facing difficulties in paying the arrears of hospitals due to insufficient resources and past payment delays.
Minister Poudel has been saying that the Rs 500,000 insurance he announced will be possible if resources are increased and health care relief services and insurance programs scattered across government agencies can be integrated.
