Kathmandu. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is giving a statement that will give strength to the group that does not repay loans from banks and financial institutions. On Monday (Falgun 26), Prime Minister Oli also gave a controversial statement that banks are oppressing the borrowers.
While presenting his views at the Labor and Employment Conference, Prime Minister Oli accused banks of failing to do justice to the borrowers. He said in the program, “If you buy 4 cows, you need 1 million. You take 1 million from the bank. And where will you take the cows and tie them up? What will you feed them? And from the next day, they start facing problems. If you need to spend 1 million, you have to take a loan of 1.5 million. First, you have to make arrangements to raise and feed the cows. A cow can give 30 liters of milk on average in Nepal, now it comes to the market. When the market is looking for a market, the dairy takes milk on loan. The dairy does not give money. The person who has taken the loan cannot repay the loan, and the bank rushes to recover the loan. The path to recovery is finally opened by increasing the loan and sustaining his business. The same is true in industries. If the industry is in a bit of trouble, it rushes to how to recover it. As soon as the industry is in a bit of trouble, the bank comes to its rescue. It is called a bad debtor, but the bank itself stands there as a lender.”
Prime Minister Oli added, “Those who are supposed to help when they are in trouble have done more to squeeze their throats. We must avoid this. If the loan is returned, if there is a way, there will be a return. The debtor should have been taken out before he drowned. If he is drowning, how can he pay? No one wants to drown without paying the loan. Why would he want to live with his property drowning. It affects the country. If there is no balanced and controlled work, it will affect the world.” At present, banks and financial institutions are under stress due to non-recovery of bad loans. As bad loans increase, provisioning increases and the income of banks becomes negative. But the powerful Prime Minister of the country is giving statements that give strength to those who attack banks and financial institutions.
This is not the first time that he has made this statement. He has been aggressive against banks both when he was in power and when he was not. On 19 Magh 2080, he had accused bankers of metered interest at the general convention of the Bank, Insurance and Financial Sector Employees Association close to the CPN (UML). Similarly, on 25 Bhadra 2080, at a program organized by the UML’s Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Department, Oli had accused banks of giving loans only to the rich. Similarly, on Chaitra 2080, while speaking at a program organized by the UML Kathmandu District Committee, he said that the services and facilities of bank CEOs should be reduced because they are too much.
In that program, Oli said, “Everyone’s salary should be enough to eat and raise children. Professions can be different. It should not be like this that some people reach the sky in their profession and some people’s wages are very low. Why give a salary of 20 lakh 25 lakh to a GM in a bank? 25 lakh per month is wrong, In Nepal, you don’t need that much money to do anything to make a living. Why give it and the list kept by the same office shows that the minimum salary is for a clerk .’
