Kathmandu.  Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Tourism and Air Transport Committee President Deshbandhu Basnet (Ajit) has presented 15-point suggestions for the upcoming fiscal year’s budget. President Basnet presented the suggestions related to tourism to be included in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83 BS.

He suggested regular operation of Pokhara and Bhairahawa international airports at full capacity, making Nepal known as an adventure sports destination other than mountaineering, removing it from the EU’s ‘safety list’ and arranging direct flights to European countries and reviewing the provisions related to VAT on air tickets.

Basnet also suggested that cash limit should not be imposed on Indian tourists at a time when Nepal is developing and expanding as a ‘marriage destination’, sports infrastructure such as world-class stadiums should be developed to promote sports tourism, private and external investment in tourism infrastructure (roads, airports, etc.) should be opened and the provision of giving 15 days ‘tourism leave’ in a year should be implemented to encourage domestic travel. ।

Similarly, Basnet has suggested setting up ‘help desks’ at the border points for tourists coming through land route and making arrangements to provide facilities including currency exchange and patta from there, developing quality road infrastructure targeting tourists coming through land route and developing and implementing the concept of ‘spiritual tourism’ as Nepal is a religious destination and birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, the harbinger of peace.

Similarly, he has suggested to announce through the budget that non-resident Nepalis will be allowed to move freely and publicity works related to Nepal’s tourism will be organized in every country of the world by taking them along.

Suggestions presented by President Basnet for the budget:

1. Policy facilitation, clear action plan and adequate budget should be provided to run Pokhara and Bhairahawa international at full capacit

y.

2. Since Nepal is a religious destination and the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha, the harbinger of peace, the concept of ‘spiritual tourism’ should be developed and implemented

.

3) Policy and budgetary facilitation should

be done to expand tourism activities through adventure sports other than hiking and mountain climbing (sky dive, paragliding, rock climbing, adventure cycling, hill side racing÷riding).

4. There is no direct flight from Nepal to European countries at present. Nepal should be taken out of the EU’s ‘safety list’ as soon as possible and direct air connectivity should be expanded to European countries

5. International ‘chain hotel’ brands are being expanded in Nepal at the initiative of the private sector. They should review the fees they can take for the management of hotels in Nepal or leave them open so that they can be determined with the consent of the two parties

6. Although the law has been amended to recognize star hotels as an industry, its regulations will be issued, so it should

be announced from the budget to do these works immediately.

7. Cash limit should not be imposed on Indian tourists when Nepal is developing and expanding as a ‘marriage destination’. Nepal should be allowed to bring its country’s currency by disclosing its purpose

8. International matches can be played in Nepal due to climate and weather. This will promote sports tourism and benefit the country. For this, sports infrastructure such as world-class stadiums should be developed

9. Some health treatments are cheaper and quality in Nepal compared to other countries. Take, for example, eye treatment. Such health treatments should be identified and the concept of ‘health tourism’ should be developed and implemented

10) Private and external investment in tourism infrastructure (roads, airports, etc.) should be opened

11. Help desks should be set up at the border points for tourists coming through land route and facilities including currency exchange and lease should be provided from there

.

12) Develop quality road infrastructure targeting tourists coming through land routes

13) The vat provision on air tickets should be reviewed

14) To encourage domestic travel, employees should be given 15 days of ‘tourism leave’ in a year

.

15. Non-resident Nepalis should be allowed to move freely and publicity works related to Nepal’s tourism should be organized in every country of the world by taking them along.
