How much do CEOs of commercial banks, who take on risks worth trillions of rupees, get paid?

Kathmandu. There are allegations that CEOs of commercial banks are receiving high salaries. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is publicly accusing bank CEOs of receiving high salaries and benefits.

Bank CEOs have been arguing that they receive high service benefits because they have to take big risks. The government has been imposing a tax of up to 39 percent on the income of bank CEOs. Former Finance Minister Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has made arrangements for those receiving more than Rs 5 million annually to pay a tax of up to 39 percent.

Bank CEOs receive salaries and benefits under the headings of meeting allowances, transportation expenses, communication expenses, internet, fuel, newspapers, monthly expenses, etc.

According to the bank’s annual report, Prabhu Bank’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ashok Sherchan has received the highest salary, while Nepal Bank CEO Tilak Raj Pandey has received the lowest.

## The CEO of the bank is Govinda Gurung. The annual report states that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of this bank will receive remuneration, allowances and benefits of Rs 3 lakh per month, allowance of Rs 1 lakh per month, Rs 3 lakh for Dashain expenses, bank holidays as decided by the board of directors, 50 days’ salary for medical treatment expenses, monthly telephone bills, one mobile set up to a maximum of Rs 50,000 (non-refundable) and an additional one-month salary in the provident fund. Thus, CEO Gurung has taken facilities at the rate of Rs 59,50,000.

It is mentioned in the bank’s annual report that he has received a total of 16.5 million rupees 32 thousand rupees annually.

Everest Bank

The CEO of the bank is Sudesh Khaling. The CEO’s remuneration is not mentioned in the bank’s report.

Global IME Bank

The CEO of the bank is Surendra Raj Regmi. In 2080/81, the bank has taken a salary of Rs. 759,000,000, allowance of Rs. 504,000, provident fund of Rs. 759,600, leave payment of Rs. 1,28,786, Dashain allowance of Rs. 1,053,000, totaling Rs. 1,56,57,386.
