Kathmandu. National Assembly (NA) Vice-Chair Bimala Ghimire has said that it has become challenging to end poverty in developing and underdeveloped countries in a sustainable manner.
In her address to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on Poverty Reduction and Sustainable Development in Xi’an city of China today, she said the lack of access to education, health, employment, food security and basic services has made it challenging to end poverty in a sustainable manner, according to the Parliament Secretariat.
“More than a billion people around the world are living below the extreme poverty line, especially in developing and underdeveloped countries, with lack of access to education, health, employment, food security and basic services making it challenging to end poverty sustainably,” she said.
Ghimire said the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) has been playing an important role since its inception as a strong multilateral forum to promote regional peace, stability, economic prosperity and social justice. She reiterated that Nepal highly values the contribution, initiatives taken and promotion of the Forum for poverty alleviation and sustainable development.
