Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has expressed the view that endangered, indigenous and traditional art and culture should be preserved through postal stamps.
At a postal stamp exhibition organized by the Department of Postal Services on the occasion of National Democracy Day, Minister Gurung said that the department should find historical themes and publish stamps if necessary.
Minister Gurung, who is also the spokesperson of the Government of Nepal, said that postal stamps are not just a piece of paper but a document that always preserves the identity and history of the country.
Minister Gurung said that the Postal Service should also publish themes that promote the indigenous values, lifestyle and tourism of the society. He said that they should identify and print it themselves. Stating that the ministry is always ready to modernize the postal service in line with the times, he urged the employees to work in the postal service in a public service-oriented manner.
Also, he said that the ministry is ready to manage the necessary budget for the post office. At the program, Minister Gurung presented a new postal stamp ‘Punchmark Mudra’ and a stamp on the cover of the ‘Vikhrikot Durbar’ stamp.
The historical ‘Punchmark Mudra’ was excavated from the ground after researching and researching ancient Kapilvastu Tilaurakot, where Lord Gautam Buddha’s royal offerings were found. In addition, the ‘Vithrikot Durbar’ in Pyuthan district was a powerful state under the Chaubise kingdom when Nepal was divided into the Baise and Chaubise kingdoms.
Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni, Director General of the Department of Postal Services, pointed out the historical importance of postal stamps and said that the department is making an action plan to create stamps by finding themes of archaeological importance.
‘There are many such interesting and historically research-based themes that can be included in stamps,’ she said, ‘The department itself is also preparing to conduct research.’
