Kathmandu. Prime Minister Oli has started the process of appointing the 18th Governor of the Rastra Bank after a long tussle. Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba is preparing to step down from power if he does not appoint a governor immediately. A regular meeting of the Council of Ministers this evening is going to appoint the governor. A meeting of the Governor Recommendation Committee headed by Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel is also scheduled to be held before the cabinet meeting. The meeting of the Governor’s Recommendation Committee is likely to recommend three names for the post of governor and the cabinet meeting is likely to appoint the governor.

A highly placed source told Singha Durbar, “Nc and UML have reached an agreement to appoint Bishwa Poudel as governor. Although it is said that an agreement has been reached on the new governor, the distrust between the leaders of the main ruling party Nepali Congress and THE CPN-UML has intensified.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has expressed shock over Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s strategy to stake claim to all appointments. Prime Minister Oli had expressed confidence that the UML would get the governor after the Nepali Congress took over the Securities Board, Insurance Authority and Nepal Stock Exchange under the Ministry of Finance. However, Oli was shocked when the Nepali Congress tried to participate in the governor’s recommendation committee. Prime Minister Oli, who had taken a stand to keep the UML as the governor anyway, had said that he would topple the government if Deuba did not get the governor.

Prime Minister Oli held discussions with leaders close to him after nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba warned that the government would not be in his bus if he did not get a governor. In the discussion, the governor discussed whether to leave the government with his party or leave the governor and retain power for some time. Leaders close to Oli had suggested prime minister Oli to extend the governor’s appointment process as much as possible. Similarly, their second-rung leaders criticised the CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist) and Rastriya Swatantra Party for not being able to talk to them.

The second-rung leaders of the Nepali Congress are constantly holding discussions with the opposition parties for power sharing. However, THE UML has not been able to make any progress.

Prime Minister Oli has become suspicious of the NC after realizing that the nc will stake claim to the Chief Secretary and the Election Commission after the governor. Oli Deuba is in a state of power if he is not given the governor.
