Pathibhara Cable Car Construction: Demand from the government to resolve the problem through dialogue with the agitating parties

Member of the House of Representatives Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai has demanded immediate treatment for those injured in the clash during the construction of the Pathibhara Cable Car and to resolve the problem through talks. Bhattarai, a member of parliament from Taplejung district, made this demand while holding a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday and making his views known regarding the Pathibhara Devi Mukumlung Cable Car under construction in Taplejung.

He said that although everyone has the right to protest and disagree in a democracy, it should be done peacefully and civilly. He said that the problems of the cable car construction company and the locals should be resolved through talks and dialogue. He urged the agitating parties to withdraw their strike programs, saying that activities that inflame the situation and disrupt social harmony will not benefit anyone.

He also demanded that the government release the arrested persons and arrange for the treatment of the injured. He said that an all-party committee should be formed under the leadership of the local level to mobilize the financial funds received from the cable car company, including the social responsibility fund, revenue, local taxes.

He demanded that another committee be formed to monitor the construction of the cable car and that the work be carried out in a participatory and transparent manner. He said that the cable car company should announce that it will provide free services to senior citizens above 70 years of age and children below 10 years of age and the disabled in Taplejung. MP Bhattarai said that easy share arrangements should be made for the citizens of the affected areas.

He demanded that the people of Taplejung should be given first priority in the field of employment. He mentioned that the company should pay attention to local education, health and employment in addition to providing a 50 percent concession to the people of Taplejung on the cable car fare. He said that the construction of the Pathibhara cable car should be carried out without any hindrance and a social responsibility fund should be established to be provided by the construction company. He has demanded that the government allocate additional budget to construct Mukumlung Park and Museum for the preservation and promotion of local culture, as well as to take forward various activities for the upliftment of religion and culture.

He mentioned that the Pathibhara Devi Mukumlung Cable Car Company has started the construction of a cable car in Pathibhara, Taplejung, after completing the legal process from the federal government, provincial government and local levels. He said that the cable car station will be built about 800 meters away from the main temple of Pathibhara. He pledged that no hotel or restaurant will be built or allowed to be built at the top of Pathibhara. He informed that there is no truth in the rumor that 25,000 trees will be cut down, as advertised outside, saying that 2,112 trees and poles will be cut down.
