Kathmandu. Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has said that the pashmina industry is the identity of Nepal. Inaugurating the first three-day international Pashmina Festival and Exhibition of the Nepal Pashmina Industry Association, he said that Nepal’s pashmina has become the identity of Nepal as it has made its mark internationally by competing with countries like China and Mongolia.
‘Nepali pashmina has such a good market, skills, and has been introduced to the world market. It is a matter of concern that it cannot be introduced in Nepal before the world market. To strengthen the market for pashmina, which has made its mark in countries such as Europe, America, Japan, there is a challenge of providing raw materials and a need for policy reforms. The government is engaged in reforming this,’ Minister Bhandari said.
Emphasizing the need to elevate Nepal’s thriving industrial sector, he said the government is working on reforming laws that are seen as obstacles in the industry, commerce, and export sectors. They said that they have moved forward rapidly. Informing that a timely reform of the trade policy will be presented in the upcoming parliament soon, he said that the government is making policy arrangements as well as a separate fund to encourage small and micro entrepreneurs.
Minister Bhandari said, “The government is serious about how to increase Nepal’s trade and exports. To achieve economic growth, it is necessary to adopt a strategy to expand the market for Nepali goods. It is also necessary to take forward the use of Nepali goods as a national campaign.” He also clarified that the government has brought an ordinance to overcome the disappointment in Nepal’s capital market and economy and for business reforms.
Chairman of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chandra Dhakal stated that there is no shortage in the quality of Nepali products and pointed out the need for cooperation between the government and the private sector for the marketing of Nepali goods at home and abroad. He pledged that the Federation would also provide necessary support and cooperation in the promotion of Nepali products.
