Chitwan. Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the party’s general convention will be held before the 2084 BS general election. Talking to reporters here today, he said that the general convention will be held in four years as per the provisions of the law and the party’s statute.
He said, “We have worked to finalize the active membership of the party within the next Chaitra to hold the general convention on time. Friends at the grassroots level had to support that.” He said that although the statute provides for an extension of one year, even if it is up or down by two to three months, it will not be extended by a full year.
He said, “According to the statute of the Nepali Congress, the four-year term ends in Mangsir/Push of 2082 BS. Our effort was to hold the general convention within four years and it is still there. However, looking at the distribution of party membership and other matters, there is no way to fully claim that we will hold it within that exact date,” he said. There is a facility for extension of the term for a year, we are consulting with the chairman, let’s advance as much time as necessary.’
He said that it would be beneficial to postpone the party’s general convention as much as possible before the 2084 elections. Speaking on a different occasion, he said that the ordinance brought by the government would be tabled in Parliament in a day or two. He informed that it would be passed by Parliament after being tabled with discussion. He clarified that it would not become a law like the bill brought by the government on social media regulation. Stating that there are many problems with this bill, he said that the bill would not be passed without corrections, revisions and amendments.
