Kathmandu. Speaker Devraj Ghimire has said that it is the responsibility of the Parliament to pass the School Education Bill with priority.

In a meeting organized with the chief whips of various political parties to discuss contemporary political issues today, Speaker Ghimire said that the Education Bill should be passed with priority as soon as the Parliament is convened, at a time when community school teachers are protesting demanding the issuance of the Education Act.

‘The Parliament is under pressure to discuss the budget in accordance with the provisions of the government’s policies and programs, financial procedures and the Fiscal Responsibility Act,’ said Speaker Ghimire. ‘It is the responsibility of the Parliament to pass the School Education Bill with priority. Teachers have asked to know without taking the Act, he has also asked me to meet and take the initiative.’

In the meeting, Speaker Ghimire proposed to operate the Parliament on all days except Saturdays and public holidays due to the pressure of pre-budget discussions, policies and programs, budget and school education bills. The meeting has approved the proposal. The schedule will be presented in the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee to be held on April 12.

While the subcommittee has committed to submitting its report by April 23, the parliament has made preparations to give it priority, Speaker Ghimire said, adding that the schedule will be secured so that the bill can be presented in parliament on any day.

‘The parliament will start the process of passing it as soon as the subcommittee’s report comes. The civil service bill is also about to come from the committee. Keeping in mind the technical limits of the policy and program and budget, we should be prepared to pass the education, civil service and other bills in this session,’ he said.
