Kathmandu. A parliamentary committee has carried out on-site monitoring of Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited after complaints related to the supply of medicines started increasing. The Committee on Industry and Commerce and Labour and Consumer Welfare under the House of Representatives conducted on-site monitoring of the limited for study and research on the status of drug production, problems faced by the limited and supply of medicines.
Committee President Abdul Khan said that although Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited can produce medicines that reach the country, there is a problem due to non-purchase of medicines by the government offices. According to him, production has been limited due to problems in import of necessary raw materials, lack of financial resources and lack of arrangements for purchase of medicines from government agencies and only 11 types of medicines are being produced at present.
Despite having adequate manpower, technology and infrastructure, the problem is due to policy problems and negligence of the government.
Committee President Khan said, “We have come to the notice as to why the government-owned organization of Nepal is not able to supply medicines after the people complained to the committee that we are not getting medicines directly.” Secondly, we have also come here for monitoring to know about the problems of The Limited. We have also come to the monitoring to get information about the problems being faced by The Pharmaceutical Limited. According to them, the government is not agreeing to buy medicines even though Nepal Pharmaceutical Limited can produce medicines that reach all over Nepal. ‘
“Instead, they buy medicines from private companies and distribute them to government institutions. He said that the main reason is the lack of arrangement to buy medicines from the government offices. Another reason is that despite the provision of human resources, technology and physical infrastructure, we are making only 11 types of medicines as raw materials have not been brought. He said that we can produce 98 types of medicines if the import of raw materials is facilitated and financial resources are managed.”
He said that necessary suggestions would be given to the government after discussing the problems of The Pharmaceutical Limited in the committee.
