Kathmandu. CPN-UML MP Raghuji Pant has said that the issue of monarchy should not be discussed in the parliament. He said this while speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Sunday.

He said that the current constitution does not recognize the monarchy as it embraces the republic and said that since the republic has been established with the demand of time, the issue of monarchy is confined to history. He said that with the flow of time, the world’s monarchies ended and republics were established.

He questioned why the Shah dynasty was being talked about for restoration now, saying that there were monarchies of Malla, Kirat, Lichchhavi dynasties in Nepal’s history.

He said, “The current constitution does not recognize monarchy, so it cannot be discussed in parliament, it only recognizes republics. Monarchy has become a matter of history. Many monarchies in the world are a matter of history because monarchy is a special right. Therefore, the current political trend of the country is republicanism. A republic should have come to Nepal, now ask those who call for restoration, why did they want a monarchy of the Shah dynasty? Those who did not bring the Malla dynasty before this also have the right to do so.” Why not bring the Lichchhavi and Kirats before that? Why not talk about the restoration of the Gopalvanshi and Mahishpal dynasty before that? Which monarchy? Many monarchies come and go in the history of the world, this is the flow of time. Republic is the truth of today’s era.’

MP Pant said that since democracy is the system that moves forward according to the people’s feelings, the government should immediately address the concerns and feelings of the people.
