Agency. Pakistan-administered Kashmir on Friday urged residents near the de facto border with the Indian side of the region to stock up on food, as tensions between the arch-rivals escalated after a deadly attack last month.
India has blamed Pakistan for an attack by gunmen on civilians at a tourist resort in Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 22. The attack killed 26 people. Islamabad has denied the allegations.
“Directions have been issued to stockpile food supplies for two months in 13 constituencies along the Line of Control (LoC),” Pakistan-administered Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar ul Haq told a local assembly on Friday.
The regional government has also created an emergency fund of one billion rupees ($3.5 million) to ensure the supply of food, medicine and all other basic necessities to the 13 constituencies, he said. He said government and private-owned machinery has also been deployed for road maintenance in areas along the LoC.
