Dhorpatan. The national pride project has started to upgrade the Pakhutte-Jhimpa-Nisi road, which is an alternative to the Mid-Hill Highway. The road, whose track was opened in 2073 BS, has started to be upgraded.

The upgrade of the road, which is 25 kilometers long, from Pakhutte, Dhorpatan Municipality-2 to Nisi, Nisikhola Rural Municipality-5, has started. The first section, five kilometers from Jhimpakhola to Dhand, is being worked on by M/S TAS Engineering and Construction and the second section, two kilometers from Pakhutta to Mande, is being worked on by Baglung Kaligandaki Construction Services.

The first section, Nisikhola Rural Municipality, has been allocated Rs. 9.847 million in the current fiscal year, and the second section, Rs. 5.973 million, has been allocated by the federal government.

The first section was started by signing an agreement on Chaitra 22, while the second section was signed on Poush 2, 2081 through the Road Division Office, Baglung. Engineer Sagar Bhandari of the Road Division Office informed that the work of widening the road, laying walls and constructing drains in this section has reached the final stage. He said that 90 percent of the work of the section, which is expected to be completed by mid-Jeshtha, has been completed so far.

Engineer Ramesh Aryal, Managing Director of M/S TAS Engineering and Construction, informed that 30 percent of the work has been completed in the first section so far. He said that work is being done to install hume pipes, construct drains and widen the road at various places in this section. Aryal said that the work is being completed by Asad 10.

The rural municipality has so far spent more than Rs 40 million for the Pakhutte-Jhimpa-Nisi road. Although this road was initially proposed for the Mid-Hill Highway, it was diverted due to various obstacles and disputes.

The said road was opened nine years ago by the former Nisi, Bohora Gaun and Devisthan VDCs, collecting Rs. 200,000 each, Rs. 400,000 from the Ministry of Finance, Rs. 700,000 from the Dolidar Organization, and Rs. 800,000 from the District Development Committee, for a total cost of Rs. 61,000,000.

Jevan Pun Magar, Chief Administrative Officer of Nisikhola, said that crores of rupees have been spent on upgrading alternative roads in previous fiscal years. He said that the locals have been suffering from mud and dust for a long time due to the lack of road upgrading, and now they will be free from that problem.

Chief Administrative Officer Pun said, ‘It has been a decade since this road was opened. Due to lack of resources, all the roads cannot be upgraded at once. Therefore, the work has been done by allocating a little budget every year. Since all the sections could not be upgraded at once, the citizens along the road have had to face problems due to mud and dust. This problem will be solved gradually.’
