Paddy and rice worth 8.68 billion imported through Birgunj border in seven months

Birgunj. 226.48229 kilograms of paddy worth Rs 8.68 billion have been imported through the Birgunj border in the seven months of the current fiscal year.

The import of paddy has increased by 72 percent in the same period of the current fiscal year compared to the seven months of the previous fiscal year. In the same period of the previous fiscal year, 131.859416 kilograms of paddy worth Rs 4.91 billion were imported through this border.

Amit Tiwari, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, said that there has been an increase in the import of paddy and rice in the seven months of the current fiscal year. “It seems that the import of paddy and rice has increased in the same period of the current fiscal year compared to the seven months of the previous fiscal year,” he said.

Not only paddy but also rice is being imported from foreign countries in Nepal, an agricultural country. In the seven months of the current fiscal year, 13.374 million kilograms of rice worth 1.35 billion rupees have been imported through this border.

While in the same period of the previous fiscal year, 8.117 million kilograms of rice worth 1.6 billion rupees were imported. In the first seven months of the current fiscal year, 57.714 million 583 kilograms of maize worth Rs 2.96 billion have been imported.

While in the same period of the previous fiscal year, 66.49972 kilograms of maize worth Rs 2.97 billion were imported. Compared to the previous fiscal year, there has been a slight decline in maize imports during the same period of the current fiscal year.
